Boden's Story

Boden is 3 weeks old today, crazy how fast it is already going, I want it to slow down and keep him small forever but I don't think it's going to happen! Now things are startring to slowdown and we are getting into some what of a routine (best we can being in Idaho going from family to family) I have time to sit down and write about the day he came into our lives!

Boden was due on October 22nd. On the the 12th of October I was scheduled for a regular weekly check. Dr Torres came in and did is normal check, once he was done he asked us if we wanted to have a baby that weekend instead of waiting till the 22nd. Of course we said YES! He said that if I didn't start on my own that he would start me on that saturday night. He told us that where I was and with the changes that i've made in just the last week that he was almost positive I would start on my own before then! We left the office with a time scheduled for the hospital on saturday and ran to our car and started making calls to all our families!

My mom and Skyler's mom Shellie flew into Vegas on that friday. By then I was ready to have him and was trying anything to make it happen. That night we went to dinner and walked around the mall and then just went back to our house and got settled in for the night. About 10:00 we were just getting into bed and my water broke. I didn't know that's what it was, it wasn't like all the stories you hear and what I expected so I didn't say anything but holy cow were my contractions so much stronger after that! My contractions were stronger but they were never consistant so that was another reason I didn't say anything to Skyler. Finally at about 11:00 I couldn't stand it anymore and got up and told Skyler that I think we needed to go to the Hospital. We woke our mom's up and got ready and headed to hospital. At this point I think I was more scared that they were going to tell me that it wasn't my water and to go home after we had woke our moms up in the middle of the night.

We arrived at the Hospital and went up to Labor and Delivery, once a nurse FINALLY got around to checking me they told me my water had really broke and they moved me into a labor and delivery room and got me all checked in around midnight. They put all the monitors on me to check my contractions and noticed that I wasn't contracting enough were I was dialated to a 3 and 50% effaced. They decided I needed to be put on pitocin but before they would start me on that I needed to have a round of antiobiotics because I tested positive for the strep B viruse. They got that going and then at four the nurse started my pit. When we were first checked in I told the nurse then that the Dr told us to have them start me on my epidural as soon as I got checked in, the Dr also told the nurse himself when she called and told him I was there to start me on it. Well the nice nurse decided that I wasn't in enough pain so she didn't think I needed it just get, sweet lady I know! So without the Epidural she started the pit at 4:00 a.m., laying there 4 hours threw contractions on pit was not how I thought my night was going to go! I asked again about it around 6:00 and she told me she would check on it, she then came back an hour later and said the Anesthesiologist was going into surgery and it would be at least another hour before I could get it. Finally at 8:00 the Anesthesiologist was rolling his cart in to give it to me, HEAVEN!

Once that was placed and a new nurse things were good, for the most part...besides throwing up several times before Boden was delivered and having a fever, I was able to sleep and relax. At 3:30 the nurse said I was ready to start pushing, so the moms were cleared out of the room and all the delivery stuff was wheeled in. The nurse warned us both that with this being my first I should expect to be pushing for an hour to two. So we started pushing and after only 20 minutes she made me stop because he was so close and the Dr wasn't there yet. She called the Dr telling him how close I was. He was at another hospital so he said to stop pushing and would be there as soon as possible...just my luck today! The Dr. arrived at 4:15 and we started pushing again and at 4:28 p.m. our sweet little baby was born!! So October 16th at 4:28 pm he was born weighing 7lb 1oz  and 20 in long!

We spent the next two days in the Hospital. My dad drove down that afternon and got there sunday morning to be with us as well. We went home from the hospital on Monday morning and life hasn't been the same and we LOVE it! My mom and dad went home Tuesday morning so they could be home for when Lori had her baby Wednesday morning and Shellie stayed to help us with things until Friday. I was so glad that they got to be there with us! That was the one thing that made me the most nervous and sad was that they might miss it and we were going to be in the hospital alone. I wish we were closer to home though, it was hard not to have the rest of our families there with us and meet Boden. I work with some amazing girls and once Shellie had to go home they stepped in and helped with meals and kept Boden and I company while Skyler had to go back to work in the afternoons. Thanks to our parents and Kelsey, Barbara, and Stephanie (the girls I work with) for helping us out and being there for us and all their love and support!!
